New York City for the Holidays: Shopping with Kids in Tow or Kids in Mind

While NYC dazzles like a brilliant Christmas tree year round, the city really pulls out the stops for the holidays. Sleeps5 would like to make a few recommendations for traveling shoppers.
Toy Stores:

Children’s General Store on the Upper Eastside: These folks used to have a location in Central Station but alas it is no longer there. Fortunately for its many fans, they still have a store in the upper Eastside. The store has very reasonable prices and a very thoughtful selection for the 10 and under crowd. Location: 168 East 91st Street, Manhattan, NY 10128 (212) 426-4479
Kidding Around: This store is located in the Chelsea neighborhood. This store has many beautiful imported European toys. The prices are not inexpensive, but if you are looking for something different this may be your place. This store is aimed for the younger set. Check them out at kiddingaround.us.
Babesta: The children’s toys, furniture and clothing store for hipsters. They have all the latest in a charming location in the Tribeca neighborhood. Check out their merchandise at https://www.babesta.com/. This is not a store for bargain shoppers. While you are in Tribeca you may wish to check Boomerang Toys as well. They have a few locations around the city. Again, a thoughtful collection of developmentally appropriate toys. www.boomerangtoys.com
Now for the older kiddo. . . .
Something Else on the upper Eastside not far from Central Park (1324 Lexington Ave., at 88th St.) This store is aimed at the pre-teen or young teen.
Nintendo World/ formerly The Pokemon Center: You know by the name whether this is the store for your kiddo. It is located in the Rockefeller Center. Checkout their website at https://www.nintendoworldstore.com/.
In the grown ups need to be happy too column try
For the traveler . . . Flight 001 located in Greenwich Avenue between W. 12th and W. 13th. This store has all sorts of fun things for the travel gadget oriented and thoughtful packer. Check out their site at www.flight001.com.
A few of my faves for the Moms and Dads and quirky enough to bring the kids . . . Fishs Eddy on 889 Broadway at 19th Street, Flatiron District (www.fishseddy.com). They have wonderful display windows, quirky affordable items for the home inside. I particularly love the back of the store with the flea market dishware—you may find grandma’s pattern. This is not a “precious” store so children will feel comfortable and stimulated by the variety. Also, try Mxyplyzk on Greenwich www.mxyplyzyk.com Avenue- here is a little something fore everyone: home goods, toys, tools, travel items and more.
Happy Shopping
