Sample Family Trip Costs:
In the article, the costs were totaled for a family of 4 with 2 adults and 2 kids between the ages of 3 and 9. At those ages, the kids qualify for a ‘child’ admission ticket rate to the Disney theme parks.
The sample trips were all for 4 nights, but varied on the number of days of park admission: 4 days on the ‘Average’ and ‘Cheaper’ options, 3 days for the ‘Low-End’ option, and 5 days for the ‘Deluxe’ option.
Each sample trip used an average cost for flights into Orlando, with slightly increased transportation costs needed for off-site accommodations to include rental car and parking.
The ‘Average Disney Vacation’ was $6,360.
The ‘Cheaper Disney Vacation’ was $4,885.
The ‘Low-End Disney Visit’ (with off-site hotel) was $3,564.
The ‘Deluxe Disney Vacation’ was $9,781.
Compare Costs of Disney with Our Trips to Europe:
A Disney vacation is expensive, and many find it worth the cost. For comparison, contrast the Disney totals with my ‘family of 5’ trips to Europe.
Our 2008 2-week trip to Munich, Berlin and Copenhagen was under $7,000, including hotel and airfare for 5 people. The kids were 10, 10, and 13.
Our 2012 2-week trip to Paris and Rome was about $9,000, including hotels and airfare for 5 people. The kids were 14, 14, and 17.
Makes me very proud to see how my efforts to travel on a budget have really paid off!

Disney World Family Vacation Wish List
We have not yet been to Disney World, but since we live on the west coast, we have been to Disneyland in California three times.
Our three boys have always prefered Legoland, though, thus we’ve been to a few Legolands in a few countries: Five times to San Diego, California, and once each for Windsor, England; Gunzburg, Germany; and Billund, Denmark.
But a Disney visit does have great appeal to all of us!
A trip to Disney World may still be ahead for us — One of our kids, now a young adult, recently suggested it as a future family-trip idea. It’s now on the family vacation wish list.
