This historic Martha’s Vineyard hotel has a number of options that will sleep a family of 5, 6, or 7. The Captain Luce and Huxford cottages have three bedrooms and a sofa bed, plus a fireplace and kitchenette. Other cottages have two-bedroom suites, with a king bed, queen bed and sofa-bed as well as a small kitchen. Additionally, in the Mayhew wing and the original main building, there are suites that have two queen beds that can accommodate a roll-away.
Because of the many room types and the various tourist seasons, the rates change considerably. The staff will help you with finding your best fit.
Our family stayed in the historic main building during the spring of 2016. The staff members were very friendly and helpful. Over the course of our stay, we had lovely meals in the main dining room and lounge. Menu prices were reasonable for Martha’s Vineyard.
During the summer months, the hotel opens a large outdoor swimming pool. The Harbor View Hotel is on a charming, quiet street with views out to the lighthouse and beach. We particularly enjoyed sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch while looking out at the water, birds and boat traffic.
Every morning, we took easy walks around the historic town, tidy neighborhoods and or along the beach. For us, a car was only necessary in order to reach other towns.
Hotel staff directed us to a place in Edgartown where we rented bicycles. Martha’s Vineyard is a pretty flat island, making for easy cycling. We rode from our hotel to the colorful town of Oak Bluffs. This bicycle trip was easily our happiest day out of many happy ones.
During our stay, our favorite café was the centrally located Rosewater, where we became regulars for lunch and coffee breaks . The shop has a wonderful gift selection, as well.
