Accommodations:

La Barde, in the hamlet of Montfort (near Vitrac), is a comfortable bed and breakfast. It is perfect  for families visiting the Dordogne region of France. The B&B has a family suite, “Ambre,” that easily accommodates a family of five (5). The suite consists of two rooms, one with a queen size bed and a single bed, and the second with a queen bed and a large bathroom plus another shower-only room. Also, it is wheelchair accessible.

Proprietress Frederique advised that the bed configuration could be altered as needed. Please contact Frederique and Pascal directly, as the third-party websites are not set up to accept the five person request as of this writing. Sleeps5 Experience:

First of all, proprietors Frederique and Pascal are very fun, generous with their time, and well acquainted with all the various activities and sights around the area. English-speaking visitors will have no problem communicating with Frederique or Pascal. They are comfortable speaking English–but also patient if you want to try out your French!

La Barde in Monfort, Dordogne

La Barde is much like an informal, small, boutique hotel.  The hosts serve a plentiful continental breakfast (which is included in the room rate) at the large communal table–be sure to try the dandelion jelly!

In addition, the stone building is modern and comfortable while simultaneously fitting in sympathetically with the local architecture. Lastly, La Barde has a lovely swimming pool, garden, library, and a lobby area great for lounging.

Monfort and Vitrac:

The quaint village of Monfort is conveniently located near many other picturesque villages of the Dordogne. There are three restaurants within walking distance serving a variety of meals from bistro to gourmet–Angelus was our favorite. There is a small but mighty private castle surrounded by the village on one side, by the Dordogne River on the other.

The town of Vitrac is slightly larger and just a stone’s throw away. Pascal will give you great suggestions on where to eat, including restaurants that serve only local fare.
